Home From Retreat!

Oh my, I'm absolutely exhausted!! LOL I've been quilting with Kaaren, Debra, Gail and Rose since Wednesday evening. I got home yesterday afternoon, and have been trying to catch up on my rest ever since. I think I'm finally feeling a little like myself tonight. We had a great time, lots of laughing, lots of great food, some good heart to hearts and not a lot of rest! Did I mention the laughing?? Oh my, there was a lot of that. I had to leave for a bit on Thursday afternoon, and while I was gone, I thought to myself, this probably isn't a good thing, hard to tell what the others might get into while I'm away. Oh yeah, not good, they certainly took advantage of that time to set up a few pranks for me. All I can say is, I'll never see a Kit Kat bar in the same light again in my life!! lol All good, lots of fun!

So I took a few pics, but they were taken with my phone, so not the greatest quality, I forgot my camera once again!

Along with the pranking and laughing, we did get lots of sewing done.

                                                   Kaaren's applique projects

                                                         Gail's Flying Geese

                                                        Rose's Star Happy

Debra's take on my mystery quilt

                                               Kaaren's Ollie came to visit

And a couple of the things that I worked on, a lot of little things for the shop.

Speaking of the shop, there's only four more days until the opening, it'll be a busy week I'm sure. If you're in the area, I hope you're able to visit!

I'm planning some fun things for the fall and winter for the shop. One is a trunk show by a wonderful quilter from Amherst, Nova Scotia. I've never been to a trunk show before, but have seen lots of pictures from bloggers all over blogland. Looks like lots of fun. I would love to hear some suggestions for the trunk show, and some ideas of what to include in the day from those of you who've had trunk show experience.

Just had to share!

My friend, Kaaren from the Painted Quilt, dropped in to the shop for a visit this morning! She's lending me some of her beautiful quilts to display in the shop. She had a stack of them on the counter, and as we went through them, there was this treasure about two from the bottom!!

Oh my, it's absolutely awesome! She and our friend Debra, made this beauty for me! I'm so thrilled! The picture just doesn't do it justice, I wish you could see it in person! Kaaren designed to reflect the shop logo and she ROCKED it! Thank you so much Kaaren andDeb, it means the world to me.

I'm so blessed with great friends. Gail has been helping almost every day to get things ready for opening, my mom has been there cleaning, organizing and quilting, her husband Terry has been doing some electrical work, Rose has come to help paint and give suggestions and of course there's been my hubby, working like a crazy man to get things ready! I know there are others too, my sister, my Aunt Linda and Uncle Vernon and so many that have offered this and that, and leant a few things! It's all coming together! Less than two weeks!

A Sewing Day!

Things are coming together nicely at the shop. There's a few more things on hubby's to do list but I can see the end in site! Today, I stayed at the shop all day, waiting for deliveries. Let me tell ya, when you get a big ol' box of sewing supplies in and go through them all, checking things out, it's right up there with Christmas! LOL!

So today was a sewing day, not much that I could do today other than that. I've been working on this other Kim Diehl one. I can't remember what it's called though. You know, I just can't get enough of her stuff. I'm actually thinking about starting a Kim Diehl club at the shop. Have you made any Kim Diehl quilts? I've got two on the go right now, this one needs the borders, then the little wool melons added and it'll be ready for quilting!

A Little Stitching

All of my sewing recently has been for the shop. I'm not complaining, I'm enjoying every minute of it. It's actually part of my "work" day. Gotta love that!!

Wool for quilts is something that is not often found in these parts of the Maritime provinces. From what I've been able to find, there are no quilt shops in NS that carry felted wool so any quilters that want to use it, buy it at the rug hooking shops, which are also few and far between or they buy it in clothing at the second hand shops and felt it themselves. So, in the many orders that will be coming into the shop in the next few days, there will be lots of felted wool. I can't wait to see it.

Sewww, I've been busy working on a few wool projects for display. I love working with it, I've chosen to do handwork with mine, I love the quiet time at the end of a busy day but you could also do machine appliqué with it. This piece is from the Kim Diehl book Simply Charms, just one of many that I hope to be able to make. If you haven't tried wool on cotton appliqué, try it, please, you'll be glad you did!

Remember These!

You remember back in July, Temecula Quilt Shop did a challenge for the month, and I just had to try these little babies!

The blocks were finished in August but they've been just sitting there waiting for me to do something with them ever since. Needless to say, I've been busy, but I was really hoping to have these ready for the shop when it opens. So, today it's a flimsy!! And I love it!! I added a couple of coins for perspective, the blocks finish at 2".

And...I'm old school sewing today! My "new" machine is in for it's one year checkup! My back up machine, which is around 18 years old, is definitely not backing me up. Can't believe I sewed with that thing for so many years and thought it was a great machine! Sewwww, today I'm using the old cheapy Kenmore that is around 25 years old and it's doing a much better job. Sounds like a train going through the house, but at least it's sewing!! Complete with an old Belle sticker compliments of little BJ, from way back when. Makes me smile!

Shop Samples

I've been busy! Getting things ready, painting, cleaning, sewing (yes, that's the best part). And shopping, from wholesalers this time, for stock!! Oh my, it's lots of fun!

For me, what makes a really great shop is lots of samples to oooh and ahhh over. So, I'm sewing, cutting, playing with fabrics, hoping to get lots ready to share with you. And some of my quilting girlfriends are helping out with that also. Kaaren, from The Painted Quilt, has graciously offered to lend me some of her beautiful wool on cotton quilts for display. Isn't that awesome! If you've ever had the opportunity to see Kaaren's work up close and personal, you know that I am over the moon happy about this offer. Her work is absolutely stunning and I have the privilege of having it hang in my shop!! Can't wait!

I'm working on a Kim Diehl design myself this week. I've been wanting to do this one since the book first came out, and figured now was the perfect time. Can't wait to see this one in the shop! It's easily one of my favourites of Kim's. Hard to pick a favourite really, because I love them all. But this one has been speaking to me since day 1. So, last night and this morning I got all of the little melons cut. And now to start some piecing!

Hope you're having some sewing time today too!
